Time for a website spring clean!
With spring slowly creeping up on us we know how many of you will batten down the hatches and get your 'spring clean' done. We believe that your website deserves a spring clean too!

How do I perform a website spring clean?

  • Fix any broken links (pointing to pages on your website or off your website)
  • Fix any image issues
  • Update information

Fixing broken links (inside and out)

A broken link is essentially a link that has been added in and does not work. It might be a link that you have copied and pasted but not copied the whole link, when the user clicks on this it will take them to the half-copied link and it will not work. This is bad practice and is not good for users or search engines.

Fixing image issues

This point is fairly similar to the one above. You will look for any image on your website that are not displaying correctly, this could be;
  • Image too big / small
  • Link to broken image
  • Replacing low quality / resolution images with higher ones

Updating Information

If you don't give your website much love then there is a possibility that some of the information will be out of date. We have seen some information on websites that have been completely wrong and these are key pieces of information e.g. Telephone numbers and company addresses. Here are some examples about what you can look for;
  • Telephone Number(s)
  • Fax Number(s)
  • Address
  • Product / Service listings
  • Social Media accounts

Why is this a good idea?

A website spring clean may seem like a hassle but having up to date information on your website should be a priority. Remember, people use the internet as an information retrieval tool so your information should be accurate especially if people are looking for services or products that you provide.

Use this to your advantage

Now that you have updated your website, why not use this as an advantage and share your updates on social media? You can share anything such as "we've added a new product ..." or "meet the new member of our team ...". This can boost engagement with your website and if you’re selling product or services then hopefully it will lead to some sales!

There is no limit

Don't worry! This doesn't have to be done right this second, in record-breaking time. We suggest that if you have a lot to do then you break it up page-by-page and work on it when you get a chance. You can do as little as you want or as much as you want but at the end of the day it could be a big benefit to you and your website visitors / customers.

Set a reminder!

We do encourage you to keep your website up to date all year long but if you are struggling to keep on top of it then we recommend that you set a monthly, quarterly or yearly reminder - obviously the shorter the sweeter!
